The demands of the space segment differ from the commercial segments in one major area — ongoing reliability. In some cases, there is only one chance to complete the mission, and the system cannot be brought back into the shop for repairs.Some systems must transit deep-space for 10 years or more before being activated.Every component must activate when required and perform flawlessly to the end of the mission. Advance Circuit Technology, Inc. has purchased a Palomar 8000i Wire Bonder. The 8000i Wire Bonder is a fully automatic, thermosonic, high-speed Au/Pt bumper, ball and wire bonder. The 8000i Wire Bonder supports complex, high-mix automated production for wire bonding, ball/stud bumping and complex IC attach. This adds more capability to the recent purchased 2 new Europlacers version iico high speed pick and place machines from Europlacer. Combining all around capability, the iico is perfect for low to medium-volume, high-mix production. iico can place 0201s to the largest QFPs on the market, as well as components that cannot be handled by conventional vacuum nozzles, the system incorporates a high level of flexibility rarely found in low-cost solutions. The machine head includes an 8 position rotary turret on an X/Y gantry utilizing ‘on the fly’ vision, it maintains high placement rates even on boards with a wide range of components.

JUNE 2, 2015 Cissoid releases Pluto A SiC High Temperature 60A /1200V Power Module
CISSOID, the leader in high temperature semiconductor solutions, releases CHT-PLUTO, a high temperature power module that can operate reliably between -55°C and +225°C, delivering up to 60A. CHT-PLUTO is a dual Silicon Carbide MOSFET module primarily meant for half-bridges with 30A continuous capability for both low-side and high-side. The two independent switches can be used in parallel to deliver a total of 60A with a breakdown voltage in excess of 1200V and a low on- resistance of 23mΩ at 25°C and 50mΩ at 225°C at VGS=20V.

This glob top and dam material can withstand not only all automotive high temperature application but is now being used for Downhole (oil well drilling) circuitry at a constant 240C. This material can replace any Hysol (Loctite) material – but more important is the fact that this material is non-frozen. CISSOID, the leader in high temperature semiconductor solutions, releases CHT-ELARA, a high-temperature 80V quad diode. This new device includes four independent and dielectrically isolated diodes that can be connected in different configurations: in series, in parallel for higher current, or in a rectifier bridge. Each individual diode can sustain a reverse voltage of 80V, has a maximum forward current of 900mA at 225°C and is suitable for operation from -55°C up to +225°C. MCT3436 retains its very high physical strength properties profile up to 500°F. MCT3436 combines markedly enhanced thermal and mechanical shock resistance and thermal cycling capabilities. MCT3436 bonds well to a variety of substrates including metals, silicon, composites, glass and many plastics. It has good chemical resistance to water, acids, bases, fuels and oils. The service temperature range is -100°F to +500°F.

Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic LTCC substrates, and integration into LTCC Multi-Chip Modules (MCM) and LTCC microwave modules all require a unique set of materials and processes necessary to achieve reliable operations in extreme military and commercial environments. This one-day course examines the major aspects of LTCC and microwave packaging from a practical perspective. The instructors (Tom Green and Tom Terlizzi) share valuable lessons learned from years of experience. Design issues, material trade-offs, process selection are all covered in detail with the goal of imparting useful information to the students.

AUGUST 11, 2014 KOARTAN MICROELECTRONIC INTERCONNECT MATERIALS INTRODUCES "KOAR COOL" ALUMINUM NITRIDE CERAMIC SUBSTRATES TO COMPLEMENT ITS THICK FILM MATERIALS.
Koartan Microelectronic Interconnect Materials (KOARTAN) offers flat aluminum nitride (AL-N) substrates in a variety of sizes, thicknesses, and surface finishes. With a thermal conductivity of 170 W/mK or better, these substrates are well suited for many applications including RF/Microwave circuits and heaters. Also available from KOARTAN are conductors, resistors, and dielectrics compatible with KOAR-COOL AL-N substrates and other makes of aluminum nitride substrates. KOAR-COOL AL-N Substrates are available for use in other applications such as for thin film microwave substrates, ceramics for high temperature electronics or for thermal management of optical, electrical, or mechanical systems or components. Standard sizes range from 4.5" x 4.5" to 1" x 1" in thickness from 0.010' to 0.25' in 0.005" increments and 0.040" thick. Custom sizes and shapes are available with a slightly longer lead time.

Cirtek Holdings Philippines Corp. is acquiring a local Philippines manufacturer of integrated technology products specific to the wireless industry to expand its portfolio and increase sales. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Cirtek said its wholly-owned unit Cirtek Electronics International Corp. (CEIC) signed a share purchase agreement with Remec Broadband Wireless Holdings Inc. to fully acquire its subsidiary Remec Broadband Wireless International Inc. Remec Broadband Wireless International (RBWI) is a local manufacturer of value -added, highly integrated technology products used in the wireless industry. "The acquisition expands [Cirtek's] product and technology portfolio into the high-growth wireless communication space," the disclosure read. is a Aluminum Nitride filled, single component, frozen, epoxy compound for BGA and flip chip underfill applications with a Thermal Conductivity of 2.88W/mK. This 9116 is designed to release entrapped air rapidly during cure resulting in a smooth, pinhole free surface. The viscosity is such that this material will flow nicely under the component and around the solder or conductive epoxy balls. Adhesion to Si, GaS, GaN, glass ,epoxy molded components, is excellent.

Announcement of the 2013 IMAPS (www.imaps.org) Daniel C. Hughes Award
Our Partner Samuel Forman, President of MicroCoat Technologies (www.m-coat.com), is the recipient of the 2013 IMAPS (www.imaps.org) Daniel C. Hughes Award. The Daniel C. Hughes, Jr. Memorial Award is the highest, most prestigious annual honor, and is awarded to the individual who, in the opinion of the Daniel C. Hughes, Jr. Memorial Award Selection Committee, has the greatest combination of technical achievements related to microelectronics, combined with outstanding contributions supporting the microelectronics industry, academic achievement, and support and service to IMAPS. The presentation of this award will take place at the IMAPS International Symposium, September 30-October 3, 2013 in Orlando, Florida. The award ceremony is scheduled at 11:40 AM on October 1st at the Exhibition Hall (www.imaps2013.org ).
